Willow’s phone vibrated in her pocket. She retrieved it, gasped, and glanced at Lucy in shock. “It’s Avery!”

She swiped to answer. “Where the hell have you been?” demanded Willow.

“I’m so sorry. Ethan whisked me away on our third date for a few days. We spent the first night at his house and then we drove out to a beautiful lakeside lodge at Wicker’s Forest. I lost my phone and couldn’t make calls.”

“You could have used Ethan’s phone to call me, or did you forget about meeting me on Thursday?”

“Oh, no…I’m so sorry. It escaped my mind. There is no excuse, Willow. Again, I’m sorry. I will make it up to you. I thought about using Ethan’s phone to call you, but I didn’t know your number. Ridiculous as it sounds, I never have to physically type your number. It’s stored in my contacts. I just tap your name.”

“I get that. I don’t know anyone’s number off by heart either. I could not recite yours if I needed to.”

“Don’t worry about it. I was just worried about you. It was so unlike you, that’s all.”

“I understand. Ethan has consumed me, Willow. He wants to make the most of our time together before I leave for work in a few days. We have spent most days together. I think he is the one!”

“Seriously?”

“Yes, I just know it.”

Willow chimed in. “But it’s only been eight days! Things are moving fast. Well, all that matters is that you’re happy. So did you find your phone in the end?”

“Weirdly, Ethan found it on the floor under the back seat of the car this morning. I don’t know how it got there. Anyway, you were the first person I called. Are you free later?”

“Yes, I can be,” confirmed Willow.

“Then pop over to my house and we can catch up properly. I want to hear how your last day at work went and your date with Dillon.”

“I can be at yours around two-ish. Does that work?”

“Perfect. I will prepare a late lunch for us. See you later,” finished Avery.

Willow slipped her phone into her pocket and turned to her sister. “This is so unlike Avery. I have never known her like this. She’s like a different person altogether.”

Lucy’s brow furrowed. “It all sounds intense. What happened to her phone?”

Willow shook her head, annoyed. “Apparently, she lost it. Ethan found it under the back seat of his car this morning while cleaning it. It’s not that I don’t believe her, but it just doesn’t sit right with me. None of it does. Ethan is moving too fast, and you know how delicate and vulnerable Avery is.”

Lucy ambled over to Willow and placed her hand on her arm. “I will tell you what I think. Avery has fallen in love, even if she doesn’t realise it yet. This is all knew to her. Love makes people dizzy and forgetful. Don’t worry. Avery is an intelligent woman. I am sure she knows what she is doing.”
