My newest book, Torn Roots, is ready to go. It will be published at the end of July, along with eight other new additions to the Lei Crime Kindle World, and it’s time to show the world the cover designed by the incomparable David C. Cassidy.
What Torn Roots is about
Hawaii is known for volcanoes and sandy beaches. Beauty and danger reign.
After breaking a case of murdered poachers in Maui’s national park, Detective Pono Kaihale accepts a short-term position as Acting Lieutenant in Hana on the island’s rain-forest coast. He is looking forward to redirecting lost hikers and moderating mild lovers’ spats and enjoying the natural beauty of the southeast coast. But by his second week on the job, Pono finds trouble here comes in unexpected forms.
Environmentalists, property developers, protesters, arsonists, kidnappers, and a rogue Homeland Security agent converge on his new post, Pono feels like the eye of a brewing storm. And when a new FBI agent gets involved, Pono realizes the stakes are much higher than a quiet period in his career.
Lives will be lost if he doesn’t solve this mystery quickly.
The Lei Crime Kindle World

Kindle Worlds is an Amazon initiative that allows authors to publish stories set in another author’s fictional universe. The Lei Crime series is the best-selling creation of Maui-based Toby Neal. So far, Toby has published nine novels about the Hawaiian police detective Leilani Texeira.
As I explained on June 18, Toby invited me as one of a small group of writers to create stories for her new Kindle World. An initial group of eight novellas and stories launched in early April, and a new group is coming out at the end of this month.
I’m happy to say the book is written, featuring Lei’s former police partner, Pono Kaihale, as well as some of Toby’s other characters, plus some characters that are fully my own creation.
Watch this space for more announcements about the new wave of Lei Crime stories. And in the meantime, visit Toby Neal’s website to find some terrific Lei Crime Kindle World stories.

An extremely visual book cover. I wasn’t sure if I like it until I read “the blurb” about the story. The cover seemed appropriate. AND that’s what it is all about. Pique curiosity and make it all fit together. Good job.

What fun to share another author’s ‘world!’ And that’s a great cover, though I’ve never seen David produce any other kind.

You can’t go wrong hiring David C. Cassidy for your cover-art. He’s produced another eye catching one that seems appropriate for the story.
The blurb is intriguing. Good luck with the story. I’ll be interested to hear how writing in another authors world works out for you.

I love Maui! It truly is Paradise, something I never suspected was true until my daughter and i visited for the Christmas season last year. This story would be awesome to me simply because it’s set in Maui. Lucky you. Good luck with it. The cover is eye catching.
